How come the U.S. just let's North Korea terrorize South Korea?

it's kind of a no-brainer that North Korea is still attacking South Korea. unlike vietnam, the Korean war was a tie breaker and North Korea broke it's treaty with the south and attacked again. why doesn't the U.S. just send a bunch of nukes over there and snuff kim jong il of the map?
